Joel R. Primack is a theoretical physicist known for his work in cosmology, particle physics, and gravitation. He is currently a professor emeritus of physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Primack has made significant contributions to our understanding of the structure and evolution of the universe, including the development of the cold dark matter paradigm, which has become the standard model for understanding the formation of large-scale structure in the cosmos.
He has also been involved in various collaborations, such as the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS) and the Primordial Inflation Polarization Explorer (PIPER), which seek to further our understanding of the early universe and the nature of dark matter and dark energy.
Primack has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including being elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
